3. Martin Cooper invented and used the first cell phone in April 1973. It was bigger and heavier than cell phones today. It was twenty-three centimeters long, and it weighed more than one kilogram. He got the idea for a cell phone from TV programs about space. He worked with the company Motorola. They made the phone smaller and lighter.
